1. The data we hold

We store your name, email, nickname (the public name you choose), optional bio, and the listings, wanted items and messages you create. A nickname is required when you first log in — including with Google — so that your real name and email are never shown to other members. We never store card numbers, bank details or any payment information — Uni-Cycle handles no money.

2. What's shown publicly

Your nickname and listings are visible to other users. Your email is never shown publicly unless you choose to display it on a listing. In private messages, only the other person's nickname is shown — real names and emails are never displayed in messages; if a member hasn't chosen a nickname, you'll see "Seller — (item name)" instead. Postcodes are used only to place items on the map; full addresses are never displayed. With your permission, your browser's location may be used to centre the map — this stays on your device and is not stored.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to run the marketplace — showing listings, powering search and the map, delivering private messages, and sending you an email notification when you receive a message. We do not sell your data.

4. Messages, blocking and deletion

Messages are private between the two participants in a conversation — only those two people can see them, and no one else (including admins) can read your messages. We store message content so you can read and reply in the app, and we notify the recipient by email when a new message arrives. You can block other users from messaging you and delete your own messages. You can export or delete your messages at any time.

5. Location data

Postcodes are looked up using the free Postcodes.io service to obtain coordinates for the map. We store only the postcode and coordinates you provide, not your full address. Map tiles are served by OpenStreetMap.

6. Admins and banned accounts

Administrators can view member email addresses and roles, promote or remove members, ban email addresses, and moderate listings. If your email is banned, you will be signed out and cannot use Uni-Cycle with that email. We store banned email addresses and a short reason so we can enforce bans and prevent re-registration. Admins can also update public page content (text and images) using edit mode; this does not include your profile or listings.

7. Your GDPR rights

You have the right to access, export, correct and delete your personal data. In My account you can edit your profile, download a JSON copy of all your data, manage blocked users, or permanently delete your account and data. Deleting your account removes your profile, listings, conversations, messages and blocked-users list.

8. Children's data

Uni-Cycle is used by parents and carers to pass on children's items. Account holders must be 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and listings should not include personal information about a child.

9. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, your profile, listings, conversations, messages and blocked-users list are removed. Banned email records are retained to enforce bans.

10. Contact

For any privacy request, use the export and delete tools in My account, or contact support.

11. Advertising

Uni-Cycle is funded by advertisements shown on the site — these ads are our funding source. Ad slots may be served by third-party ad networks, which may use cookies or similar technologies to measure ad performance. We do not share your personal data with advertisers, and advertising does not influence how your listings appear.
